Understanding your Professional Judgement
My Goal for my Professional Learning About
Classroom Assessment
“One big
step in ‘getting there’ (assessment literacy), must be continued professional
development for teachers”. This quote has made me think about my goal for
my professional learning about classroom assessment. Firstly, I will learn about and implement fair assessment practices so
that students will be able to learn and meet the specific success criteria. I
want to treat everyone in the class equally, not the same, because every
student is not the same. Every student has different learning needs, learning
goals, behaviours, strengths, backgrounds, etc. Secondly, I will learn about
and implement communicating assessment results effectively so that students
will be able to know how they are progressing as learners, what their strengths
are, what they can improve on and what their next steps should be. I want to
provide comments that focus on and refer to specific aspects of knowledge and
skills of the students or on the learning skills and work habits. Also, I want
to provide key next steps for improvement that address the student’s most
significant learning needs. In order to accomplish these goals, I will engage
in collaborative planning with Associate Teachers and colleagues, develop a
self-reflective teaching practice and participate in on-going learning
opportunities (ex. AQ courses, workshops, advanced degrees).
